Millennium Fellowship Project: Women's Inclusion In Decision-Making And Leadership Roles.

Grima is a medium sized community located in Kailahun District, Sierra Leone. Women in this community face discrimination and marginalization by men for household and community decision makings, and taking leadership roles. Men believe that decision makings and leadership roles are meant for them alone. During the baseline survey, seven out of every ten households report of women not allowed in decision makings and leadership roles. "Our women should be in the chicken and their role is to take of children at home", the town chief, Pa Lansana Alpha stated. Sensitization through community meetings, house to house interview, public gatherings, worship places etc. will help create awareness on the important of women inclusion in decision makings and leadership roles. This will make women become bold, represent the community outside, support household in the absence of their men.
