Millennium Fellowship Project: Johar-e-Zan
It was a project designed to raise awareness about reproductive and mental-well being of women. It expanded its scope beyond school workshops to include private sessions for women in underserved communities, addressing critical health topics. The goal was to provide accessible education on menstrual hygiene, mental well-being, and breast cancer awareness to empower participants to take charge of their physical and emotional health. Key Activities:
1. Workshop on Menstrual Hygiene and Mental Well-Being in Moon Public School:
Educated 8th and 9th-grade girls on proper menstrual hygiene practices, breaking taboos around menstruation.
Conducted a mental well-being session to help girls recognize and manage stress effectively. Some med school students were involved for this activity.
Created a safe, judgment-free space for open discussions.
2. Private Breast Cancer Awareness Session for House Help:
Conducted an intimate session for the house help of my and neighboring households with a gynecologist.
Taught attendees how to perform breast self-examinations at home.
Raised awareness about the importance of early detection and regular check-ups.
Addressed societal misconceptions, including the belief that mastectomy diminishes femininity, empowering women to prioritize their health.
