Millennium Fellowship Project: Ecocycle Initiative
The EcoCycle Initiative is a sustainable waste management project launched at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as part of the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024. It aims to address issues of solid waste innovation and waste minimization within educational institutions, with a strong focus on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
EcoCycle emphasizes creating a cleaner, more sustainable campus environment by fostering awareness, encouraging individual responsibility in waste management, and promoting proper disposal practices. The initiative's primary goal is to reduce waste accumulation and environmental pollution rather than transforming waste into resources.
The project was officially launched on November 2, 2024, with a large-scale cleanup event involving 37 volunteers who collected 17 bags of waste across the FUOYE campus. Through EcoCycle, we aim to inspire behavioral change and advocate for a sustainable future, not just within FUOYE but in broader educational and community contexts.
