" Apart from being passionate for change, I've also been interested in the SDGs and emerging issues around the world and I'm happy to learn more and be able to relate it to disability as a whole. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Disability Awareness in Tertiary Institutions

Disability is a global issue and it’s taken seriously
in a few institutions in Nigeria. This project aims
at creating disability awareness in my university
and eliminate the different barriers and
discrimination all persons with disabilities
experience in the course of their study. A
physical meeting with the necessary authorities
and students (who are persons with disabilities)
in my institution to sensitize them on disability by
familiarizing them on the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities and the Nigerian Disability Law will be
one of the focus this project. Also empowerment
and skill acqusition programmes for persons with
disabilities is another focus to empower them so
they can be independent after their Academic
career.

About the Millennium Fellow

Victoria Nimma Aguda is a vibrant young lady, she was born and brought up in Nigeria by two Deaf Parents and is currently studying Animal Production and Health at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria. She is passionate about the Deaf by facilitating accessibility through the use of Sign Language in her country. Being a CODA has exposed her to the discrimination against persons with disabilities within the society and the need to prioritize them. She desires to use her last year in the university to strive for change. She has volunteered and worked with the NGOs and International NGOs in Nigeria across various sectors; healthcare, human rights, agriculture, politics, education and others to bridge the communication gap for the deaf.
