Millennium Fellowship Project: West Atlanta Watershed Sustainable Classroom

I am currently working on a project to build a sustainable classroom environment at the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA), an all-volunteer organization dedicated to environmental conservation and community education. This initiative is close to my heart, as it combines sustainability with the opportunity to create a space for learning and growth for less accessible communities to ensure theres equitable access to learning enviornmnets. It will allow local residents and visitors of the area to have a space to educate themselves about the environment they're in. Over the past few months, we have taken significant steps to bring this vision to life. Through increased efforts to raise awareness about the project, we’ve managed to inspire more people to join our mission. The growing interest and enthusiasm have resulted in a strong pool of committed volunteers who are eager to participate in build days planned for next semester.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been sourcing sustainable materials and recycled wood to use for the construction. We’ve also worked these months to finalize designs that are not only practical but also carry symbols that WAWA has asked us to integrate to reflect their principles of sustainability. These designs show our dedication to creating a space that aligns with WAWA's values and inspires others to adopt environmentally friendly practices.

About the Millennium Fellow

Aakrishtaa Kumar is a Junior studying Computer Science at Georgia Tech, she is a very self driven, motivated and dedicated student. She has a very curious nature which stems from growing up watching shows such as "How it's Made" and "Myth busters", this allows her to strive for perfection whenever she undertakes a task. Her commitment for social good has allowed her to be a leading part of her Develop for Good social organisation, taking the Design Manager position on her team and leading them to implement a successful product for a Non profit organization. Being a part of the Bits of Good Organization at Georgia Tech has introduced her to the non profit community in Atlanta and with this exposure she has identified how Non Profits benefit the community in so many ways. She plans to take this opportunity to continue her work and increase awareness for social good.
