United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 52,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2024 on 6,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 280+ campuses worldwide (just 5%) were selected to host the 4,000+ Millennium Fellows.

I am particularly excited about working towards gender rights and inclusivity, thereby contributing to the Millennium Development Goals. The fellowship would help improve my research skills and creativity, allowing me to work better towards fullfilling my passion in future dates as well. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Fostering Female Leadership - NETRUTVA

Balika Panchayat is the initiative taken by GNLU students in the village of Koba in order to promote goal 5 and 10. This project looked into the root problem of underrepresentation of women in the policy formation. Thus leading to an void between the real problem faced by women and policies made to solve them. By choosing an representative from the younger generation of women, they have increased their say and representation in the policy formation. This particular initiative has helped the women to easily keep their issues and problems in front of the society without any hesitation. This initiative has also enhanced the confidence and decision making power of women in the society.

About the Millennium Fellow

Sudarshana Mahanta is a student of law and humanities at Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar. She hails from Jorhat, Assam, in the north easern region of India. Being an avid reader, she had developed an early interest in International Humanitarial Law and Women's Rights. A stanch feminist and an advocate for financial and educational rights, Sudarshana envisages a world of peace where all people have the right to prosper. Owing to her passion, she has taken part in various initiatives during her school and college days towards the advancement of these causes. In her free time she enjoys engaging in debates or going for a run. Through her participation in the Millennium Fellowship Program, Sudarshana hopes to work further in the direction of women's rights, particularly in the political and financial spheres.
