" Food is woven into every aspect of our lives, making it a major determinant of health that has amazing potential to empower and unite both individuals and communities. I am incredibly excited for the opportunity being a Millennium Fellow presents to expand my positive impact on the health of our communities through leading the way towards a more food secure, connected world. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Cook and Connect
Cook and Connect is a program I designed and implemented with a peer from my Nutrition and Dietetics cohort at Griffith University. It aims to bridge the skills and knowledge gap contributing to food insecurity among many university students by offering a free, fun program that teaches foundational cooking skills and provides nutrition education while promoting ongoing conversation and connection between participants.
About the Millennium Fellow
Caitlin Brims is a motivated third year Nutrition and Dietetics undergraduate at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, Australia. Passionate about the power of food, she feels strongly about sharing her knowledge and skills to bring food security closer to being a global reality. She has also witnessed how university study can exacerbate feelings of social disconnectedness, so designed her project, targeting both food security and mental wellbeing, to help create healthier, happier humans. After she graduates, Caitlin intends on continuing to make food and the science of nutrition more accessible, understandable and enjoyable for at risk populations.
