" “Wealth is not to feed our egos, but to feed the hungry and to help people help themselves.” Andrew Carnegie
Millennium Fellowship will allow those with limited knowledge and skills learn from the "wealthy" mentors as well create meaningful partnership to help others, who will in turn help these and others as well. What a powerful principle of sustainability in place! "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Teach-Each

The “Teach-Each” project, led by Millennium fellows of Gulu university, aims to empower pupils holistically by focusing on health knowledge, career guidance, and environmental conservation. During this phase, we engaged over 300 pupils at Manuel Junior School, impacting their knowledge on personal hygiene, lifestyle habits to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and environmental stewardship. Key activities included health seminars, career talks, and tree planting. Four trees were planted as a symbolic and practical step toward environmental conservation. With minimal challenges, the project successfully achieved its objectives, and plans are underway to extend its reach to other schools in the community.

About the Millennium Fellow

Okwir Aron is a passionate health professional, with work experience as a Registered Nurse and now a fourth year MBChB Student, in Gulu University in Northern Uganda.
I was born in Kwania, a small district in Northern Uganda, which suffered from insurgency of Lord Resistance Army (LRA). I grew up in a community with low resource capacity, in terms of health, education and economic well being. My early childhood faced Measles outbreak, that caused loss of lives of many of my agemates, whom I will miss forever. I survived through the work of dedicated health workers who reportedly found me during a home out-reach activity, and took me to the District hospital. My story always inspires me to work hard, learn, acquire knowledge and capacity to contribute to humanity.
We can only give what we posses, only possess when we are given or we find, create and innovate. Hence, an opportunity to learn from others through Millennium Fellowship program is such a unique blessing!
Throughout my study and work, I have taken leadership roles, engaged my community in mentorship, innovation and voluntary activities to drive better life for ALL.
I aspire to be not only a health professional but rather an Agent of Change by driving efforts towards accessible, affordable and optimum social, economic and health care services for the difficult to reach, unreached and disadvantaged individuals, groups and communities. This will be a reality through the mentorship I hope to get from my participation in Millennium Fellowship.
Thank you for your precious time. Yours sincerely,
OKWIR ARON MBChB IV Student, Gulu University.
