Millennium Fellowship Project: Teach-Each

The “Teach-Each” project, led by Millennium fellows of Gulu university, aims to empower pupils holistically by focusing on health knowledge, career guidance, and environmental conservation. During this phase, we engaged over 300 pupils at Manuel Junior School, impacting their knowledge on personal hygiene, lifestyle habits to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and environmental stewardship. Key activities included health seminars, career talks, and tree planting. Four trees were planted as a symbolic and practical step toward environmental conservation. With minimal challenges, the project successfully achieved its objectives, and plans are underway to extend its reach to other schools in the community.

About the Millennium Fellow

Tabu Ismail, a nickname (brand name) of Tiko, is a fourth year student pursuing Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Gulu University in Uganda and a proud and bona fide citizen of Uganda by the virtue of birth. He is privileged to have undergone a DIT training in Juice Processing under a project of Skilling in Agri-preneurship for increased Youth Employment, a project implemented by AVSI Foundation and funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Gulu University. While at the university, he was distinctly honored with notable leadership experiences for example serving as Chairperson Nature Uganda Gulu University Branch, 22nd Students Guild Representative Councilor constituent of Faculty of Agriculture, 22nd Students Guild Disciplinary Committee Member, 22nd Students Guild Committee Member of Ethics, Integrity and Religious Affairs, Deputy Chairperson for Privately Sponsored Students, Publicity Secretary for Gulu University Muslim Students. This distinct honor and privilege became his cornerstone for attending and actively participating in notable conferences and workshops most notably the 5th Biennial African Philosophy world conference at Gulu University in 2023, 2nd Inter-University symposium on Pan Africanism and Africa`s Integration in Gulu City in 2023, JNLC Annual Julius Nyerere Leadership Symposium in 2023, UN dialogue on Sustainable development goals in commemoration of the UN day in Gulu City in 2023 among multiple others. His passion and enthusiasm to leadership and humanitarian community service fueled my selection as a Youth Panelist for European Union Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization, an initiative of the duke of Edinburgh international award, the Red cross, YMCA, YWCA, Girl Guides and Girl scouts. This was further sweetened by my selection into the Millennium Class of 2024 advancing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. I was also privileged to selected to the Prestigious Aspire Leaders Program 2024, an initiative of Aspire Institute and Harvard Business School.
He also proudly volunteers for Uganda Unites, a youth project advancing peace, creation of non-violent communities, reconciliation among others where I am the team leader for the volunteers in Northern Uganda. Furthermore, I have ably served as a mobilizer for the 2nd Northern Uganda Agriculture Show in 2023. I so tightly believe that these attitudes and mindset were engineered and influenced in a way by the high schools I went to and that is to say; St. Joseph`s College Layibi in Gulu, Uganda for lower secondary and St. Julian High School Gayaza in Kampala for higher secondary.
