" I have always been passionate about making a change in my country but I am also aware of the fact that I need guidance and skills development in order to make a big impact. With the Millennium Fellowship, I know I will be able to sharpen my skills and work more in line with the SDGs. This will assist me to make greater strides towards my goal. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Vuwani nivhale project

It is a project aimed at providing reading material in native languages to children from minority language groups. We are also lobbying for the language of instruction in schools to reflect the native languages on the students.

About the Millennium Fellow

Thilivhali Vanessa Msipa is a bright, driven and determined young woman studying law at the Herbert Chitepo Law School of Great Zimbabwe University in Zimbabwe. She is multilingual, being native in Venda and fluent in Shangaan, Shona and English. From a young age, she has been very aware of the troubles that children from marginalised language groups in her country face, particularly in the field of education. Being part of two minority language groups herself (Shangaan and Venda), she has witnessed first hand the gap which exists in the Zimbabwe education system where reading material and lessons are usually carried out in either Shona, Ndebele or English, only three of the sixteen official languages of the country! This has led to low pass rates in the marginalised areas of the country such as Chiredzi and Matabeleland south. She has made it her goal in life to fight for inclusivity in the education sector thus furthering the SDG of quality education for all.
