" Progress is the realization of all utopias, I strongly believe that through the impact I will bring by being part of the Millennium Fellowship, I will contribute to making social justice, sustainability, and youth participation a reality and not something deemed as utopic or idealistic. My work will help create a world in which students engage and are passionate about the contribution they can bring to society and are not discouraged by paternalistic discourses that make them feel powerless. Power and enthusiasm are the drivers of this progress. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Beyond Borders - Unveiling Unheard Realities
Beyond Borders - Unveiling Unheard Realities is an original project aiming at creating a bridge between higher education students and the local community issues around them. As the competitive academic environment too often offers limited space and time for open, free, and constructive discussion. This initiative goes beyond the overly formal academic format and approaches social challenges by returning to the original means of politics: dialogue. By focusing on the UN goals, this initiative connects students from different backgrounds to create confidence and hope for better cooperation among the decision-makers of the future. Indeed, the core of the project consists of the valorization of intercultural dialogue to approach different current events and reflect together on civic action.
About the Millennium Fellow
Agnese Bettini is a curious and passionate student born and raised in the suburbs of Milan, Italy. Her drive towards social justice and parity of opportunity led her to engage in various student and community activities focused on the importance of education in enhancing life chances. Her ambition and particular interest in the Asian continent, led her to apply to Sciences Po, Le Havre Campus where she discovered a new interest: economics. She saw economics as a way to study and understand world inequality and fight against it. This brought her to apply to HKU Business School where she is now an exchange student. Her current goals are to learn as much as possible and develop new ways to engage and bring social impact by cooperating with students from other backgrounds and fields of interest. Particularly, from the new environment discovered in Hong Kong, she's looking for inspiration and creativeness.
