" I firmly believe in the primacy that ethics coupled with assiduity takes in sowing the seeds for graspable, inclusive change - this, however, is only feasible upon consolidating individual knowledge and expertise in a team of like-minded, motivated changemakers. I am thus firmly optimistic that partaking in the Millennium Fellowship will significantly advance my research skills, ameliorate my coordination competencies, expand my knowledge and boost my critical thinking. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Communal Conciliation - Global South
Communal Conciliation – Global South is a social impact project, advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which aims at fostering inter-ethnic as well as inter-religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the Middle East and South Asia through the eradication of barriers to communication between communities stricken with unrest and discrimination, on a societal and institutional level. First-hand experience coupled with observations and scientific engagement with the topic of (anti-)discrimination exposed the absence of inter-communal interactions to render among the primary origins of misinformation and harmful stereotypes within in societies that amount to insufficient institutional policies. This quest for equity, reciprocal acceptance and adequate systemic representation is to be brought to fruition by means to hosting interactive and educational webinars with and without local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on university campuses across the aforementioned regions in which students will be introduced to concepts from the discipline of Sociology and confronted with thought-provoking questions. Webinar attendees will receive flyers summarizing covered content and including a list of recommended resources to consult. Moreover, the project's Instagram page @communalconciliation invites students to share food for thought, network and stay up to date with webinar announcements. Putting students' introspection and awareness center stage, the project founder will serve as a moderator in lieu of a mentor, thus allowing for a level-headed setting defined by collaborative learning, grounded in quality academic sources and premised on humble leadership, inspired by the Doha Debates Model.
