Millennium Fellowship Project: Lifestream: Blood Pints To Save Lives
Lifestream: Blood Pints to Save Lives is a social impact project spearheaded by Millennium Fellow and Campus Director of the Class of 2024, Daniella Obikunle at the University of Ibadan. The project aimed to address the critical shortage of safe blood and blood products by promoting voluntary blood donation through targeted awareness campaigns, advocacy, research efforts and organized blood drives.
The initiative launched with a collaborative blood drive on the 25th September during World Sickle Cell Month, supporting sickle cell children of CHRISBO HB Foundation. It culminated in a campus-based blood drive, which held on November 22, 2024, following a wide spread social media advocacy campaign to debunk the myths around the subject, utilizing graphic designs and informative videos. 81 pints of blood were collected from over 100 registered donors. The project also featured sensitization on voluntary donation, distribution of contraceptives, and data collection to fuel a research project on students' perceptions of blood donation to guide future interventions.
Lifestream advances SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), leveraging youth engagement, partnerships with organizations like The BloodDrive Network and Aqua life and data-driven strategies to create sustainable impact.
