Millennium Fellowship Project: Swayam Shakti
Swayam Shakti is an initiative aimed at empowering acid attack survivors by making them financially and educationally independent. The project focuses on helping survivors overcome psychological trauma, rebuild their confidence, and pursue the life they have always dreamed of. The core activities include: 1. Collaborating with NGOs that share a similar mission. 2. Organizing workshops and psychological therapy sessions with trained professionals. 3. Conducting career counseling to help survivors choose their preferred path. 4. Providing financial support for educational pursuits. 5. Assisting with medical treatments. 6. Helping survivors seek justice by connecting them with legal professionals. The initiative aspires to create a safe and empowering environment where survivors can heal, acquire skills, and regain their identities as strong and self-reliant individuals.
About the Millennium Fellow
Avwal Kaur is a 2nd year student pursuing Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, Kashmere Gate, Delhi. With a global perspective and passion for societal change, she is dedicated to leveraging technology for creating meaningful impact. Currently in her second year, she has worked on building 'Learning Seeds' platform that works towards acheiving 'Quality Education' SDG and 'Shepreneur' that aims to empower women to take-up entrepreneurial roles as a career opportunity and provide them with proper support and guidance. She is committed to refine her expertise and play a pivotal role in advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals globally.
