Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur | Kharagpur, India | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 1 & UNAI 9

" During my school debating, I got opportunity to take part in numerous debates ranging
from National level corruption to ground-level problems faced by poor. Surprisingly,
root cause for many problems in the society is Illiteracy. This motivated me to join an
NGO named Gopali Youth Welfare Society(GYWS) at the very beginning of my college
life, where I get an opportunity to work on this root cause. Education shouldn’t be
restricted to just reading the books and acquiring knowledge. The definition of
education can be extended to leaps and bounds, from teaching values to making a
student wise enough to contribute to the nation. India, besides having enormous
human resources, is still backward in Nobel Prizes, Olympic medals and many
noteworthy fields for whatsoever reasons. I believe that i will get the fullest of
experience for my thoughtful community work through Millennium Fellowship. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Gopali Youth Welfare Soceity
Gopali Youth Welfare Soceity is run by a team of 100+ IIT Kharagapur students under the guidance of some of the professors of IIT Kharagpur. We started with a primary aim to work for the welfare of the people of VillageGopali. Our vision is to give back to society by helping in uplifting the less fortunate. We had many initiatives, Our flagship initiative is JAGRITHI VIDYA MANDIR, which is the only
English Medium primary school in the locality. Under this initiative we provide free cost of quality to around 250+ underprivledged children in and around Kharagpur region. Most of the children are first generation learners to receive education in their family. We also provide free hostel facility in the newly constructed hostels to around 65 students. We use 2-3 vans for the transportation facility of the students. As of now we are able to provide the primary eduaction to the students and to provide the further education facilities to the students we train those students for JAWHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA entrance exams to get admission into the premier schools- JAWHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA run by the Central government of India. We are hardly trying to provide education for the further classes to the
students.
