Millennium Fellowship Project: Aranya Education
I want to unite a community of enthusiastic college students, all driven by a common goal – to illuminate the futures of underprivileged children. Imagine this: intimate interviews or an unconventional exam format in rural village schools, featuring analytical questions (not academic intensive) designed to delve deep into the child's thought process. Considering the average of around 60 students per class in these schools, my target is to impact at least 50 schools in Bihar, my ancestral state, which unfortunately grapples with the lowest literacy rate in India. To kick things off, we'd host a laid-back interaction session coupled with engaging activities. The real magic, however, happens when the kids dive into solving real-life problems around them. Take, for instance, an agricultural challenge; they would explore their farms, consult with elders, and devise practical solutions. Following this hands-on experience, we'd break down the intricate concepts and introduce modern techniques relevant to the problem. The overarching goal is to deliver not just education, but an immersive and practical learning experience rooted in their immediate surroundings. I envision this process as not only educational but also inherently interesting and, more importantly, profoundly impactful in shaping their lives positively.
About the Millennium Fellow
Hello!
I'm Abhishek Kumar from Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand. I've completed my third year and I'm currently pursuing my bachelor's in Engineering Design and a Master's in Finance.
I love breaking down problems into pieces and finding its solutions, which caught me up into two main activities at my institute. First, through a team called Avanti Fellows, I mentored two students from Navodaya Vidyalayas and helped them get into IITs. I recently signed off as the head of the team
Second, I got involved in various research projects with different professors at IITM and abroad. We worked on solving real-life issues, and I also participated in national-level research events winning some of them, which led to two of my patents getting published.
In my free time, I enjoy writing, singing, and occasionally filmmaking. I was part of the film contingent at IIT Madras, where I made several short films for national and institute-level events. I've also authored a couple of books. And, of course, you can always count me in for any jamming or band sessions.
