Millennium Fellowship Project: GeoWaste IITM: Waste Management Integration with Geospatial Technology
The campus waste map (IITM GeoWaste) is a website designed to help our university systematically identify, monitor, and manage waste generation and disposal across campus. Its ultimate goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of waste sources, collection points, and disposal sites for efficient waste management. The primary goal of our project was twofold: to gather and organize available data on campus waste and to develop an accessible, impactful way to present this information to a wider audience. With these aims in mind, we set out to achieve the following objectives:
1. Develop a comprehensive waste map for IIT Madras Campus
2. Support findings with in-depth research and validated data
3. Create a dynamic website integrated with real-time waste map
About the Millennium Fellow
A bioengineering undergraduate, Shivan Ajay Iyer is a forward-thinking student leader at IIT Madras (IITM), passionate about sustainability, healthcare, and access to education. As the head of the Biotech Club, he spearheaded initiatives like the IITM Summer School, making biotech education widely accessible. His dedication to positive change is further demonstrated through his work on biomaterials and regenerative medicine during an internship at UR Advanced Therapeutics. Shivan balances his academic excellence with diverse interests in music and sports, reflecting his exceptional time management and commitment. His vision for a greener, cleaner Chennai makes him an outstanding candidate for the Millennium Fellowship.
