As long as I can remember, I have always believed in human desire and capability to make a difference and achieve the SDG's that we have laid down for a better planet. As a Millennium fellow, I will come in contact with like-minded fellows and develop skills necessary to make a meaningful impact and spur a global change cause it's high time that we ACT "

Millennium Fellowship Project: ReNew Earth

ReNew Earth is a project dedicated towards efficient and effective waste management practices which has been initiated on campus. This project focuses on achieving SDG 12 (Sustainable Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action). The primary idea of the project is to promote environment-friendly waste management practices and establish a circular economy, primarily within the campus and later on extend it to beyond the campus premises. This is essential as the waste generated has seen an enormous rise in the past few decades due to increasing population, urbanisation and consumption patterns. Additionally, poor disposal and mismanagement in handling waste can lead to issues of increase in landfills, pollution, global warming as well as imbalances in the immediate environment. In order to manage waste effectively, it is necessary to segregate it at the first step itself.
On campus, we observed the gaps in the know-how of waste segregation and disposal. This furthered our interest in initiating ‘ReNew Earth’. Once necessary awareness was raised, the next step focused on collaboration with university initiatives, societies, NGO’s or other companies that could help us recycle the inorganic waste and build a system to convert organic waste into manure ( thus establishing a circular economy). By taking this initiative forward, we hope to inspire a positive change in our campus and ultimately, the community. Through these efforts, we aim to encourage lasting improvements in waste management practices and awareness about various environmentally friendly measures in the university.
