Objective:
The EQUiD project aims to promote equity in education by ensuring that all students, regardless of their socio-economic background, have an equal opportunity to succeed academically. The initiative focuses on bridging gaps in access to resources, knowledge, and opportunities for students from underserved communities hence it helps advancing SDG 4-Equity in Education.
Key Goals:
1. Increase Access to Educational Resources: Provide access to educational materials, technology, and mentorship to students in disadvantaged areas.
2. Promote Awareness on Educational Inequality: Raise awareness about the systemic barriers that hinder equitable educational opportunities.
3. Create Partnerships for Change: Foster collaborations with local organizations, schools, and communities to drive sustainable changes in education systems.
4. Provide Skill Development Opportunities: Organize workshops and programs to equip students with critical skills that contribute to their academic success and future careers.
Activities Conducted:
- Research and Needs Assessment: Conducted surveys and interviews with students, teachers, and educational stakeholders to identify barriers to equity in education.
- Resource Distribution: Facilitated the distribution of study materials, laptops, and internet access to students in underserved communities.
- Workshops and Seminars: Organized virtual and in-person workshops focused on educational empowerment, study techniques, and career planning.
- Mentorship Programs: Matched students with mentors in various fields to guide them in their educational journeys.
Impact:
-Empowered students: Over 1,250 students have gained access to critical educational resources.
-Raised awareness:The project successfully reached 2,500 individuals through online campaigns and workshops, increasing awareness of educational inequities.
- Fostered partnerships: Established lasting partnerships with Kabarak Uiversity to continue supporting equitable education.
Future Directions
Moving forward, the EQUiD project aims to expand its reach by increasing the number of students impacted, collaborating with more institutions, and advocating for policy reforms in education. The project will also continue to assess its impact and adapt its strategies to ensure long-term sustainability.

About the Millennium Fellow

Maxwell Leleur is an accomplished graduate in Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics from Kabarak University, where he earned First Class Honors. Known for his innovative contributions to actuarial consultancy and product development, Maxwell has received national recognition. He leads impactful projects, including EQUID, which promotes equity in education. Maxwell is committed to driving positive change through his expertise in financial mathematics, data science, and his dedication to sustainable development.
