" I am excited for this experience because it will help meet like minded Fellows and help me learn from them. I am eager to enhance my skills in collaboration and networking. The opportunity will also provide me with a chance to start strategising on how I can impact my community in different ways "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Education, Every Child
This project aims to empower primary school children in rural Kenya by providing essential classroom supplies and enhancing their educational experiences through mentorship and community engagement. Recognizing the barriers faced by these students, including limited access to learning materials and inadequate support systems, this initiative seeks to improve educational outcomes and foster a culture of learning. Key components of the project include the distribution of basic class items, such as notebooks, pens, and textbooks, to ensure that every child has the resources they need to succeed. Additionally, a mentorship program will be established, pairing students with local mentors who can provide guidance, encouragement, and personalized support for maximum transition to secondary schools.
About the Millennium Fellow
Derrick Sam Odhiambo is a young social entrepreneur who studies public policy and administration at the Kenyatta university. Derrick is inspired by his passion to impact society through policy formulation hence his decision to do policy studies in university. He was born in Homabay county in Kenya to a single mom and two older siblings who have served as his mentors and friends. Derrick is also a bright student who has excelled in all his levels of education. His passion for social impact is also driven by the fact that a well wisher was able to sponsor him to a top national high school in Kenya. This has created a mentality of giving back to the community and helping those in need. He has a life mantra that goes ' Never say die, up man and try. ' this drives him never to give up and keep on going always.
