" Advocating for change has been a driving force in my life. Through my project, EducateHer, I aim to raise awareness about the barriers to education faced by girls in Nigeria and help them realize their potential. As a Millennium Fellow, I’m excited to elevate my impact and bring transformative change to my community, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to pursue her dreams. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: EducateHer

EmpowerHER is an initiative that focuses on address the digital skills gap in addressing the stark gender education gap in Nigeria, particularly the underrepresentation of girls in digital skills and tech careers. Rooted in the understanding that financial constraints, limited resources, and pervasive gender stereotypes hinder girls' access to digital education, the project advocates for girls' right to digital literacy while providing cost-effective solutions for marginalized communities. We launched its first phase by partnering with low-income private secondary schools to educate both girls and boys about the importance of digital skills. Over 600 students were introduced to digital opportunities through practical workshops, supported by carefully curated free and heavily subsidized training resources. Partnerships with digital skills training providers significantly reduced costs—for instance, one provider slashed monthly fees from 70,000 naira to just 300 naira—making quality digital education accessible to all. The project is laying the groundwork for a transformative six-month digital skills training program exclusively for young girls. Set to begin next year, this program will provide in-depth, hands-on training, rewarding top-performing participants with internships and essential tools to launch their digital careers. Through this initiative, EmpowerHER raises awareness about the digital skills gap and actively bridges it by equipping girls with the skills and confidence to thrive in the digital economy. EmpowerHER is a call to action to create a future where every young girl has the tools to succeed in the digital world. edit and make better
