" A desire to see problems solved by people working together to achieve a common
goal, fuel my ambitions. I want to be able to have an impact in the communities I live
in and beyond, even if it means improving the lives of just a small section of the
people of those communities. The skills I gain from the Millennium Fellowship will make
my social impact on communities and schools more tangible and aligned with the UNAI
principles and SDGs. I feel excited and empowered to be a part of a new approach to
driving positive social impact in my community and beyond, because I strongly believe
that no problem is too small to be worth solving if it affects communities. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Afya Campus- Sexual Health AI Chatbot & Campaign

Many Makerere University students in Uganda face sexual health challenges, including sexually transmitted diseases, sexual harassment, unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and incorrect contraception use. Many lack information about symptoms, prevention, when and where to seek care, and long-term complications.
To address this, the project introduces Afya Campus, an AI chatbot providing fast, reliable sexual and reproductive health information. It offers guidance on screening, testing, legal aid, counseling, and specific topics like HIV, HPV vaccination, cervical cancer screening, safe male circumcision, contraception, PEP after rape, ARV treatment, PrEP, menstrual health, and family planning. The goal is to bridge critical information gaps for Makerere University students

About the Millennium Fellow

Brian Nyanga Angoda is a creative, young, and adventurous software engineering
student at Makerere University. He was born in Lira, Uganda, resides in Kampala, and
is currently in his final year at Makerere University. His affinity for adventure in the
technology world has been his greatest gift when it comes to learning new things,
experimenting, and sharing his knowledge. He has a passion for community, artificial
intelligence, fintech, and MedTech. His drive for community powers all his endeavors
because he believes that technology is supposed to make people's lives easier in one
way or another. Throughout his high school years, he has encouraged people to learn
to code even by writing code on paper and chalkboards. He also encourages STEM
education by taking part in mentoring robotics high school students in Northern
Uganda. He believes that by teaching a young person how to build something that can
earn them a reliable source of income, while being self-sustainable, they can become
empowered to touch other people's lives. Brian is currently a chief software engineer
at a MedTech start-up, and he aspires to make access to healthcare as seamless as
possible for anyone with access to a smartphone.
