Millennium Fellowship Project: Substance Abuse Among University Students
This project aims to explore the prevalence, causes, and consequences of substance abuse among university students. Substance abuse, which refers to the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications, is a growing concern in higher education environments. The university years are often a time of significant change and stress, with academic pressures, social challenges, and the pursuit of independence contributing to increased vulnerability to substance misuse.
The project will examine various factors that contribute to substance abuse among students, including stress, peer pressure, mental health issues, and the availability of substances. Additionally, it will investigate the impact of substance abuse on students' academic performance, mental health, relationships, and long-term well-being. The project will also explore current prevention and intervention strategies employed by universities and identify gaps in support systems that could be addressed to mitigate substance abuse.
Through surveys, interviews, and academic literature review, the project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue and propose recommendations for improving awareness, support services, and policies related to substance abuse prevention.
