United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 52,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2024 on 6,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 280+ campuses worldwide (just 5%) were selected to host the 4,000+ Millennium Fellows.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Kikoni Community General Clean-Up
This project is a community clean-up activity in Kikoni, addresses the pressing issue of litter and waste management in a densely populated area housing approximately 70% of Makerere University students.
The goal is to enhance the environmental health of Kikoni while fostering a sense of community responsibility and ownership among residents and students alike.
Engaged participants in hands-on activities and educational campaigns, and hope to instill sustainable practices that lead to long-term improvements in waste management and community pride
The social impact of this project seeks to create a cleaner, healthier Kikoni, enhancing the quality of life for all its residents and setting a precedent for future environmental initiatives.
About the Millennium Fellow
Queen Latifah is a young leader who is passionate about encouraging others towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development goals.
She is also passionate about SD7 which focuses on clean and sustainable energy for all and SDG 13 which is climate action.
She participated in the World Engineering day hackathon challenge 2024 whose theme focused on climate change being the biggest challenge an engineer shall face. Her team innovated a new way of generating sustainable energy by utilizing the weight of moving vehicles on a road to generate sustainable energy and the project managed to make it in the top 12 finalists projects of the Hackathon. She is interested in driving positive change and making the world a better place.
