Millennium Fellowship Project: Macare Mobile Based Application
We are developing MaCare, a hybrid information & referral platform: to avail information to mothers & for improved follow up, referral linkage and timely MCH Education. The information platform shall run on mobile phones and shall consist of the following;
Prerecorded voice messages (packaged as health education and reminders) and an SMS platform that shall run on a weekly basis; tailored to the gestation week. User-friendly; based on local dialect. A toll-free Helpline (24/7) on which mothers call for queries or to alert on any complications, for which case referral shall be arranged. A mobile Application that hosts the above features. Customizable: Health facilities can tailor message as per gestation age and pregnancy needs, using voices of health workers to whom pregnant mothers are accustomed to. The platform shall use existing structures like Village Health Teams (VHTs) with emphasis on male partner involvement.
We have engaged health workers at lower health facilities to establish current ANC practices and they have acknowledged that such an intervention would go a long way in improving follow up.
