Millennium Fellowship Project: My Environment And I
MY ENVIRONMENT AND I: The Cleaner, the
Healthier, the Better!
The Amassoma Community, Bayelsa State faces environmental challenges including poor waste management leading to air pollution and blocked
drainage systems. This challenge has not only imposed danger on our health as residents but has also affected our roads especially during the rainy season. Recently there was a flood outbreak which left behind trails of debris and trash. Therefore, my project aims to ensure that at least60% of the Amassoma Community refuses left by the flood are disposed properly and the community cleaned up. Some of the blocked drainage system and dump sites were cleaned to allow easy flow through the drains when the rains come, reducing the risk of infections and air pollution. The project also involved creating
environmental awareness on the importance of keeping the community clean at all times which was done in classrooms of different faculties and organizing community services which includes clean up exercise around the community and cleaning of the gutters, engaging not only my project team but schools, residents and local organizations. My project team will also collaborate with the necessary local authorities to ensure that a continuous clean environment is maintained after the clean up exercise.
