" It is typical for an ordinary person to be only
concerned about his wellbeing and that of his
family but sometimes all they need Is an
exposure to what the world looks like outside the
walls they build.
Being a Millennium fellow will take me outside my walls, to be able to see first hand both the opportunities and challenges that are out there globally.
With so high an expectation, I'm willing to meet like minds in the fellowship, people who I can connect with in building my career and making our society a better place for our families and children and the entire human race. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Diabetes: The silent killer

Diabetes is a disease caused principally by
impaired insulin activity. In one type called type I
diabetes mellitus, the body doesn't produce
insulin enough to convert blood sugar to
glycogen in the muscle cells. In the other Called
Type II diabetes mellitus, the body produces
insulin but this insulin is not utilised by the body,
so there is usually excess blood sugar in the
blood.
There is excretion of sugar in the urine, excess
urination, excess thirst and excess hunger.
Many people don't know the symptoms so most
Times the disease develops complications before
they seek medical attention.
Our project is targeted at the lay man. The
market and community squares to those people
that consume alot of sugar as a lifestyle and
obese, as they are more at risk. We will sensitive
them about how slowly diabetes can become a
nightmare and hopefully their lifestyles will be
positively affected as well as an awareness
created for younger generations around the
neighborhood.
We hope for a great impact.
