" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because while I already have the drive and the passion to carry out the social impact work I am interested in, the Millennium Fellowship will provide me access to the resources and tools necessary to really make this work feasible and applicable to the real world. This, combined with the privilege I have of getting to work with like minded individuals in my cohort, will really give my work some momentum and create tangible change. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Warm Hearts Initiative
In order to tackle the tenth Sustainable Development Goal of reduction of inequalities, I partnered with the City of Boston’s Office of Civic Organizing to host a coat drive for local Boston nonprofits and community organizations for the upcoming winter season. These organizations work with communities experiencing a higher volume of inequalities and a lower influx of resources to meet their needs, such as proper winter weather wear. Through this initiative, we were able to organize and distribute around 12,000 boys and girls coats for ages ranging from 5-18 to these organizations. We hosted a total of 5 distribution dates and were able to successfully provide individuals with a wide range of coat varieties and more for those that were in extra need of supply. It was evident from the reactions of the non-profits we provided too that they were extremely grateful for the resources we provided as so many communities they represent don’t have anyone advocating for or providing them with basic human needs that we should all have equal access to.
