Millennium Fellowship Project: Defining AI in Education
This initiative aims to address the growing questions about the role of artificial intelligence in education, particularly in early education settings.
As the scope and impact of technology and AI based education tools grow, understanding their initial impacts and potential drawbacks is key to safe, responsible, and positive implementation.
To begin to form this understanding, this initiative aims to connect educators, school administrators, and students with each other and with valuable resources for the implementation of AI based tools in the classroom. This initiative focuses on how to increase social impact in areas of educational equity and quality of education. While technology has to power to further the divide in educational equity, it also harnesses the potential to bridge this divide. Further, many educators today are tasked with the challenge of balancing the risks and benefits of AI in education. The challenges of this task are mainly rooted in the unknown; what is still not known about the future of AI, as well as the individual attitudes towards it, are what hamper efforts to regulate and integrate it in educational settings the most. The outreach facilitated by this project would aim to bridge this gap.
