Millennium Fellowship Project: Gogreen360
Gogreen 360 is a project which involves raising awareness on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation efforts, planting of Trees, and Recycling, which will serve to address issues such as Deforestation and Harmful Waste Disposal in Nigeria. Through the Nile University Of Nigeria Climate Initiative Club, over 300 trees have been successfully planted, with an ideal goal of a 1000 trees to be planted over the course of the Millennium Fellowship. Trees are essential to maintaining and sustaining a healthy Environment and Ecosystem because they serve as Carbon sinks which essentially makes the atmosphere more conducive for living things. This serves to decrease the rate of respiratory illnesses which have recently experienced an upsurge in Nigeria, affecting older individuals especially. Planting Trees will ensure a healthy environment and a productive lifestyle for individuals, tenable to achieving progress and development. Recycling activities involves Campus wide clean ups aimed at properly disposing materials harmful to the environment and wildlife. Such materials includes plastics, rubber, lead, scrap metals, discarded items etc., which disrupts the natural ecosystem. Finally, enlightenment programs will be organized to educate individuals on the imminent threats and risks posed by Climate Change as well as Mitigation and Adaptation methods and techniques.
