UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT ANUSHA ROY, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2024.
West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences | Kolkata, India | Advancing SDG 6 & UNAI 9

" My work is fueled by the continuous devastation of the environment that I witness every passing day. All I want to do is bring about some change, even if it is a small one and move towards sustainable development. I am excited to be part of the Millennium Fellowship because it gives me further motivation to do more work and eventually achieve the goal that I aspire to bring about. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to achieve feats I could never have done by myself. "

India being a developing country, must focus on its environment on an urgent basis. Spreading awareness amongst students and helping in research work for pro bono cases in environment law seemed like a perfect opportunity to improve the country's stance regarding the environment.I had planned to take help of various societies in my university which I am part of, and use their platform to enhance my work. By August-December, 2024, I hoped to achieve the filing of at least one PIL in the Calcutta High Court, regarding the degraded condition of a canal near our university. The pathogens from this canal are surely affecting the many people living in the slums and neighbourhoods nearby.
About the Millennium Fellow
Anusha Roy is a bright, hard-working and consistent student at a reputed law school in Kolkata, India. Throughout her life, Anusha has wanted to do something for the world, at least her immediate surroundings. Going through some rough phases in her own personal life after the death of her father, she has realised the pain and suffering truly present in the world. Although Anusha has not been able to do much for her country so far, she aspires to be able to bring about some change for the environment in her city with the help of this scholarship. Anusha hopes to bring about more awareness about the environment especially to people in her surroundings who are not too economically well-to-do.
