Millennium Fellowship Project: Mindful Maternity on Campus: Debunking Breastfeeding Myths

My project was “Mindful maternity on campus: Debunking breastfeeding myths” . Its goal was to enhance understanding among young women in Pakistan about breastfeeding while addressing Sustainable Development Goals SDG 2 and 3. The project focused on correcting misconceptions about colostrum and pre-lacteals, highlighting the disadvantages of bottle feeding, and advocating for the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding. Participants were educated on initiating complementary feeding, nutritious options, and cooking recipes. They were made aware of the crucial role of colostrum for newborns and the risk associated with discarding it. The project also clarified that traditional beliefs related to pre-lacteals have no real benefits and can be harmful. A questionnaire was filled out at the end to assess changes in participants' knowledge and attitudes regarding breastfeeding practices.
