" As a Millennium Fellow, I am incredibly excited to be part of this project because it aligns perfectly with my passion for creating meaningful social impact. The opportunity to address child labor on a global scale allows us to contribute to a cause that not only resonates with our values but also has the potential to change lives. I believe that empowering children through education and advocating for their rights is a powerful step toward a brighter, more equitable future. Being involved in this initiative will give me the chance to collaborate with like-minded individuals, amplify our efforts, and make a lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable children around the world. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Impact of Child Labor on Quality of Education
As a student at the National University of Medical Sciences, I undertook project work entitled "Impact of Child Labor on Quality of Education," as part of the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024, in regard with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, namely, Quality Education. The study investigated child labor's multi-dimensional consequences on children's learning achievements and opportunities. It found major issues that children, who are engaged in labor are facing:
• Reduced school attendance and increased risk of dropping out
• Poor academic performance
• Limited time for study and extracurricular activities
• Psychological stress that affects learning and development
Through extensive investigations, the study explored how these effects create hurdles toward educational possible milestones, limit the future potential of children, and continue the cycle of poverty across generations. Case studies, data collection, and policy reviews were some of the methods applied in the initiative to generate evidence-based evidence of the relationship between child labor and education. The project also advocates for actionable policy recommendations to provide children affected by labor exploitation with better access to quality education while creating equal opportunities for their development and growth. The work goes a long way in reiterating the need for addressing child labor to achieve global education and, at the same time, reach the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
