I feel like tribal communities are very overlooked and they deserve as much attention as other issues. tribal communites are facing as extinction at the moment because of the rising ecological crisis which hampers their symbiotic relationship with the nature. I believe that it would make difference in their lives if we could could help them out "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Project ASUR
Project Asur aims to empower Asur children through culturally contextualized education that integrates their heritage and traditions. By focusing on improving literacy rates, educational access, and community-driven learning, the project will work toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all.
Additionally, by advocating for the protection of Asur land and rights and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, Project Asur will contribute to SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger, helping the community reclaim their economic independence. Efforts to raise awareness about their rich cultural heritage and endangered language will support SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, ensuring the Asur people are recognized and valued as part of India's cultural mosaic.
By incorporating indigenous knowledge systems and advocating for eco-friendly livelihoods like sustainable iron-smelting and farming, Project Asur also aligns with SDG 15: Life on Land, focusing on the conservation and sustainable use of forest and land resources crucial to the Asur's survival.
In conclusion, Project Asur will not only serve as an educational initiative but as a broader platform to preserve and promote the cultural identity and sustainable development of the Asur community. Through targeted interventions in education, cultural preservation, and advocacy, the project will help bridge the gap between this marginalized group and the global goals of sustainable development.
About the Millennium Fellow
Ushna Saha is a 2nd year student at National University of study and Research in Law, Ranchi. She is a climate activist and anti addiction activist. she is a dedicated and driven individual with a passion for making the world a better place to live in. She is a person who likes to collaborate with other and create plans which are both strategic and efficient in nature . In order to fulfill the Millennium goals she wishes to apply her traits and create a better place to live in.
