Millennium Fellowship Project: Know Your Genotype

The Know Your Genotype project conducted in a secondary school in Sagamu was a transformative initiative designed to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and emphasize the importance of genotype screening among secondary school students. The program educated students on the significance of understanding their genetic makeup to make informed decisions, ultimately contributing to the prevention of sickle cell anemia.
Key highlights of the project included:
• Educational sessions: In-depth explanations about sickle cell disease, its causes, symptoms, and long-term effects, as well as the critical role of premarital genotype screening in its prevention.
• Interactive discussions: An engaging platform where students could ask questions and interact with experts on genotype-related concerns.
• Empowerment: The program inspired students to become advocates for genotype awareness, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to influence their families and communities positively.
