" I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers a unique platform to amplify my efforts in addressing climate change and empowering youth. I do this work because I believe that our generation has the power and responsibility to create a sustainable future, and every action we take today can make a lasting impact on our planet. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The PIEAS Green Initiative: Climate Advocacy and Action
The Project is a initiative designed to raise awareness about climate change and its impacts on Pakistan, the fifth most climate-vulnerable country globally. Conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad, this project combined in-person and online workshops, seminars, and social media campaigns to educate youth and foster climate advocacy.
The project addressed critical challenges such as rising temperatures, glacial melting, and the devastating floods of 2022, which displaced millions of Pakistanis. Through interactive sessions, expert seminars, and innovative outreach strategies, the initiative equipped participants with knowledge about adaptation practices like renewable energy, afforestation, and water conservation.
By leveraging both physical engagement and digital platforms, the project reached over 1,500 individuals directly and extended its message to over 12,000 people through online campaigns. It empowered youth with actionable knowledge, built networks between students and policymakers, and laid the foundation for sustained climate resilience efforts. This serves as a model for integrating education, community action, and policy advocacy to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time.
