" "Everyone has the potential to stand out, and as social beings, it is crucial to have a support network that helps us reach our goals. Through the Millennium Fellowship program, I am genuinely excited to have the opportunity to assist others in discovering and building their own support network, thereby making their journey towards success and the realization of their aspirations easier." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Signal Milco

SignalMilco is an innovative project designed to support the emotional well-being and social integration of first-year university students by combining creative expression with cultural heritage. The initiative is inspired by the Chancay culture, a pre-Inca civilization from Peru known for its distinctive anthropomorphic sculptures called "Cuchimilcos," which symbolize openness and protection. Through this project, participants will create their own replicas of Cuchimilcos using clay, reflecting on their personal experiences, fears, and aspirations as they transition into university life. This artistic activity serves as a therapeutic tool for self-expression, while also connecting students to Peru’s rich cultural history. The project aims to establish a welcoming environment that fosters emotional reflection and encourages meaningful interpersonal connections among students, addressing the challenges of social isolation and cultural displacement often faced during the early stages of higher education.
By blending art, psychology, and cultural education, SignalMilco creates a holistic experience that empowers participants to connect with their peers and their heritage. The project is divided into three key phases: an introduction to the Chancay culture, a hands-on workshop for creating Cuchimilcos, and a group reflection session where students share their thoughts and creations. This final phase emphasizes the importance of community and mutual support, drawing parallels between the resilience of ancient civilizations and the shared struggles of modern student life. By the end of the project, participants will have not only strengthened their social bonds but also gained a deeper appreciation of their cultural identity, paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive academic environment.
