Millennium Fellowship Project: Normative Nutrition
"Normative Nutrition: Eliminating Wastage in Communal Meals" is an initiative aimed at reducing food waste in our University’s hostel mess. The problem of excessive food wastage in communal dining not only results in unnecessary environmental strain but also reflects inefficient resource utilization. In line with the SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), my goal was to create a sustainable dining culture where residents could enjoy nutritious meals with minimal waste. To achieve this, I implemented a data-driven strategies to analyze consumption patterns and adjusted portion sizes based on actual needs. We introduced flexible serving options, allowing residents to customize portions and avoid over-serving. An awareness campaign highlighted the environmental impact of food waste, fostering a sense of responsibility among diners. By engaging the hostel community and promoting mindful consumption, this initiative effectively reduced waste, demonstrated practical sustainability, and inspired a positive shift in attitudes toward food resources. I further hope to expand this concept to other local universities.
