" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it connects me with passionate changemakers and equips me with skills to drive meaningful impact in my community. Through this program, I will learn leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that will help me grow projects that empower smallholder farmers. I do this work because I believe in creating sustainable solutions that improve livelihoods and protect the environment. The Millennium Fellowship is an opportunity to amplify my efforts and work with others to make a lasting difference. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Shewell Initiative
The Shewell Initiative is a youth-led endeavor in Rwanda focused on empowering teen mothers and post-abortion girls. By providing training in mushroom cultivation and supporting the establishment of small businesses, the initiative aims to address various challenges these young women face, including poverty, malnutrition, and limited educational opportunities. Through the cultivation and sale of mushrooms, participants gain valuable skills, generate income, and contribute to their communities. Additionally, the initiative offers childcare support, reproductive health education, and entrepreneurial training to ensure comprehensive support for these vulnerable individuals. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable future for these young women, empowering them to become self-sufficient and contribute positively to their communities.
