Millennium Fellowship Project: Inculcating Postpartum Depression Awareness At RCH Clinics
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a medical condition of mood disorder that affect women after childbirth with feature presenting including; strong feeling of sadness, anxiety (worry) and tiredness. These feelings make it hard for the mothers to take care of themselves, their babies or family. PPD can happen anytime after childbirth, usually develops from days to weeks and sometimes it’s a continuation from during pregnancy itself. The women feel unworthy to themselves and guilty to their babies as they can’t care for them. The community also continue to put pressure and finger-pointing at them for their condition implying they do not care for them. Thus, this project is a necessity for both mothers and their partners as well as community at large in bringing awareness on the issue and moreover assurance to the mothers that the condition is manageable and will continue to care for their newborns
About the Millennium Fellow
Hadija Ally Mtwale is a dedicated fourth-year medical student at St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania. She is driven by a passion for improving community health. With each passing day, she gains a deeper understanding of the intricate interplay between individual well-being and societal factors. Her academic pursuits are complemented by a strong record of community engagement. Throughout her high school and currently college years, she has actively participated in and organized various community projects, including charitable initiatives, educational outreach programs, medical health camps and health screening outreaches. Driven by a desire to bridge the gap between medical knowledge and real-world challenges, she aspires to become a catalyst for positive change, working tirelessly to develop and implement sustainable solutions for the betterment of underserved communities.
