New York University Shanghai | Shanghai, China | Advancing SDG 3, SDG 6 & UNAI 6

" I hope that through the Millennium Fellowship, I will gain more understanding and knowledge on Sustainable Development Goals, especially those that fall within the realms of Global Health, to promote equity and equal accessibility in healthcare, especially in mental healthcare. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Strong Pillars
The project works together with pharmaceutical companies in Hue City, Vietnam, to set up basic medicine chests and distribute necessary medical amenities to schools in remote districts of the city. This covers schools with a high number of students from ethnic minorities, who have historically had less access to medical services and preventative care. The project also compiles books and other educational materials for libraries at these schools and installs infographics in classrooms to educate students on sanitation.
About the Millennium Fellow
Currently a rising sophomore majoring in Neural Science and Global Public Health at New York University Shanghai, Addie Nguyen is invested in conducting research on existing mental health conditions among vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women, postpartum women, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Research topics covered by the projects he is working on include the impacts of culturally and socioeconomically-specific factors in Vietnam on postpartum depression, interventions powered by AI chatbots to educate women on pregnancy and childcare, and the bystander effect in cases of abuse against queer men and transgender women in Vietnam. In the years ahead, he aspires to become an epidemiologist and psychiatrist specializing in global mental and psychiatric health.
