I recently completed my semester-long initiative called “Connected Unplugged” that aimed to promote a balanced digital life among my peers. I noticed that excessive social media use and screen time were negatively impacting student interactions, productivity, and confidence, so I decided to take action. Throughout the semester, I organized various events and activities to educate my community about digital well-being and engage them in real-world experiences. These included workshops on managing screen time, introducing concepts like dopamine detox, and organizing tech-free social events like game nights and cultural festivals. I also leveraged our diverse student body to create cultural exchange programs and implemented challenges to maintain and restrict up to some time to show how life could be more enjoyable with less screen time. By the end of the initiative, I saw a positive change in my fellow students’ attitudes towards digital habits and their overall well-being.
