" One person's strength is limited, but the impact of a group can be immense. By becoming a Millennium Fellow, I can work with people who share the same spirit around the world, brainstorming and collaborating to make a significant social impact and make the world a better place. I am excited to contribute to this community, enhance my leadership skills, and enrich my perspectives in communication with a diverse group. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Green Ribbon
This project aims to promote the concept of green and sustainable development while addressing poverty issues. By placing clothing collection boxes in school dormitories, we gather items such as clothes, stationery, and daily necessities that students no longer need. After sorting, these items are sent to the Sichuan Tongjiang Charity Association, which distributes them to impoverished families and psychiatric hospitals in the region. Through this initiative, students' unused items find new purpose in the impoverished areas of Sichuan, embodying the principles of green sustainability and helping to alleviate the challenges faced by underprivileged families.
About the Millennium Fellow
Yutong Zhao is an enthusiastic, optimistic young student who cares about the world. She was born in China and is currently studying at New York University Shanagi, with a major in business and finance and a minor in mathematics. After spending her childhood in the countryside with her grandmother and then returning to the city to complete her education, Yutong developed a deep awareness of social issues such as educational resource inequality, class division, and the welfare of the elderly. Drawing from her personal experiences, she is dedicated to making a social impact to help address educational resource disparities and improve the well-being of the elderly in the fast-paced information age. In the second semester of her freshman year, Yutong participated in an educational assistance project at her school as a project planner and volunteer, helping the unprivileged children of migrant workers. During the summer vacation at the end of her freshman year, she joined her school's dean's service trip as a volunteer, accompanying a non-profit organization to a poverty-stricken county in Sichuan, China, for a week-long poverty alleviation and educational support project. By planning and executing these projects, Yutong demonstrated her passion for addressing social issues such as educational resource inequality, wealth disparity, and the challenges faced by left-behind children and the elderly in rural areas. These experiences also enhanced her leadership skills and increased her confidence and enthusiasm for making a positive social impact to improve the world. Yutong hopes to continue making a significant social impact by becoming a member of the Millennium Fellows, contributing to human well-being and the sustainable development of the world.
