Millennium Fellowship Project: Environmental Law Clinic

The Environmental Law Clinic, established in 2024 , is a transformative initiative dedicated to fostering environmental justice in Nepal. It trains law students to become skilled environmental lawyers through hands-on work in litigation, policy analysis, and legislation drafting. The clinic addresses real-world challenges, exemplified by its landmark lawsuit against ISKCON for alleged environmental harm to the Bishnumati River and Shivapuri National Park. By partnering with communities, NGOs, and government agencies, the clinic champions policy reformation and the protection of public resources, making a lasting impact on environmental accountability and advocacy.

About the Millennium Fellow

Bijena Lama is a chill, young and an average student at the National Law College. She was born in Nepal and studies in Nepal. As long as she could remember, Bijena was an energetic student during her Secondary school. She played all kinds of sports, debated, played instruments, did continuous volunteering for the clean environment, planted paddy every Ashar 15..uncountable series of work was done by Bijena. But during her High School she became introverted, she barely did anything. Most of the time she focused only on her studies. Her 2 years of high school were only surviving. After the admission of her college in National College, first 2 years of college were affected by college where she did various online activities, attended online programs, and online courses. She had only one goal to keep herself active and energetic which she lost 2 years ago. Throughout her physical classes in college after the covid, she got a grant of social and accountability policy in the climate action project where she and her team led the project. Now she and her team runs an Environmental Law Clinic throughout the 5 different Law colleges in Kathmandu. She and her team advocate for policy in the Environment. Bijena aspires to be in a professional field where she can cultivate her advocacies in different fields of the project, and provide her own contribution in the development of the indigenous communities of Nepal.
