" I am very passionate about young girls having a better future and I have seen their
lives cut short because of teenage pregnancies or dying from unsafe abortion owing to
the fact that contra eptionand family planning is not advocated for enough. I believe
every woman should be able to decide when to have children and the number of
children she wants. There is not enough awareness, and young girls, especially in this
part of the world, have little or no access to contraception due to the myths
surrounding its use. The Millennium Fellowship program will equip me with the social
and leadership skills required to make this project a success, and I am excited to
impact my community positively. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Parent Patnership
Parent Partnership is about creating awareness on family planning to couples within reproductive age as only 20.1% of the population of reproductive age uses any form of contraception because it is solely the responsibility of the women.
About the Millennium Fellow
Chinaza Duru is an outstanding young final-year medical student with an interest in
good health and well being. She was born and raised in the Federal Capital Territory in
Abuja, Nigeria, and has always believed that change starts from home. She has a
passion for maternal and child health and well being in particular. She has organised
various outreaches to this cause in her community, reaching out to women and
children especially to reduce morbidity and mortality in this set of people as children
are the future of tomorrow. Naza hopes to finish medical school by next year, rech out
to more women to talk about the importance of contraception and family planning as it
is still not talked about enough, she hopes to make a difference in her society starting
from here.
