Millennium Fellowship Project: ASPIRE TO INSPIRE
Growing up,i have always needed or wished for someone to applaude me and acknowledge that i am in the right path. Someone to help me in holding my head up high and not succumb to peer pressure. Also looking at the high statistics of HIV/AIDS amongst young girls in Botswana, i came up with the ASPIRE TO INSPIRE to spread abstinence education to show adolescents its possible to lead a life free of sexual indulgences and offer mentorship, guidance and support. Comprehensive sexual education has been taught but it seems to be planting the idea in the minds of teenage girls that its a must to and implement all they learn which is a misconception this initiative intends to correct. It will be a cheerleader to those who choose to abstain that they are not missing out, slow or stupid. It also speaks to the issues of self identity, confidence and esteem because majority of adolescents are battling with those as a result of childhood traumas and they become vulnerable. For example children from single parent families are vulnerable to defilement because they yearn for motherly or fatherly affection risking HIV contraction from those elderly people. The programme also include mental health support.
