United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 52,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2024 on 6,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 280+ campuses worldwide (just 5%) were selected to host the 4,000+ Millennium Fellows.

" This is the best platform where i will learn from different people who may share different opions and views. I will have a chance to network with people and organisations that are closely related to my project and will positively impact the progress of my project. most importantly i look forward to acquiring proffesional and competent skills like interpersonal skills, leadership skills, confidence and many other resourceful qualities. There is actually more of what i am looking forward to in this platform for example lifetime international friendships and relations, the fellowship will also add value in my personal profile and future endeavours. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sustainable Applications Of Algae

This is a scientific research project that aims at dissecting the potential value of algae in innovation. Algae is a natural renewable resource that has so many applications that the world is overlooking. The project aims to bring to surface knowledge and tested evidence that algae can be successfully applied in Agriculture as a source of biofertilizer, as animal feed, can also be applied in the medicinal field to invent cancer treatment, supplementary medication and other pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. This project's biggest ambition is to establish a science laboratory in Botswana that's dealing with algae and innovation of algae based products and work in collaboration with other research institutions and innovation companies locally and internationally. By so doing fulfilling sustainable development goals 11 and 13.

About the Millennium Fellow

Phondie is an aspiring scientist currently in the final year of her undergraduate Bachelor of Science program, double major in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Botswana. She is born from Botswana in Thamaga village where she has completed half of her academic journey before relocating to the city, Gaborone to pursue higher levels of education. Phondie is a highly organized and self-motivated individual and have gained well developed skills and experience in leadership, communication, pageantry and scientific research
through hard work, discipline, and commitment. Amongst the list of aspirations, her biggest dreams include becoming a neurologist doctor in the military and establishing a large science laboratory that will serve the country.
