Millennium Fellowship Project: Bridging the Gap
The "Bridging the Gap" project represents a pioneering educational initiative that tackles societal disparities through two complementary approaches. This comprehensive project combines international diplomatic education with localized technological innovation to create meaningful educational change at multiple levels.
At its core, the project's first component revolutionizes Model United Nations (MUN) education by bridging the gap between simulation and real-world impact. Through UCLMUN Edition X, the initiative has transformed traditional MUN experiences into vehicles for tangible social change. This transformation manifests through charitable giving mechanisms, practical engagement with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and expanded access to diplomatic education across 47 countries. The program has achieved remarkable growth, with a 55.2% increase in participation engaging over 283 delegates. It features eight specialized committees addressing critical global issues, complemented by expert speaker sessions, real-time crisis simulations, and an innovative Press Committee providing journalism experience. Partnerships with over 80 stakeholders and sponsors have strengthened the program's reach and sustainability.
The second component addresses educational inequalities in rural China through the innovative integration of technology and modern teaching methodologies. This initiative empowers educators with AI-integrated teaching methods and multimedia tools, transforming traditional classrooms into dynamic learning environments. By leveraging existing infrastructure and students' personal electronic devices, the program creates engaging, interactive learning experiences while building essential media literacy skills. Through specialized workshops and ongoing support, teachers develop proficiency in using technology effectively, leading to more inclusive and engaging classroom environments.
About the Millennium Fellow
Danna (Danqi) Tan is a highly driven and passionate politics and international relations student at University College London. She was born in China, studied in South Korea, and is currently studying in London, making her a person with a global outlook. Having lived in different parts of China (Hunan, Shanghai, and Beijing), she had witnessed the lack of resource provision and welfare in the less developed cities/villages, especially in the realm of education. This led her to develop a strong interest in UN initiatives related to equal education and gender equality. Throughout high school, she successfully led and participated in volunteering work related to differently-abled individuals, and is now looking forward to using the experience to create initiatives related to accessible education for all.
