" The desire to make sustainable impact in the lives of other people has been my fuel of interest, to encourage them to take ownership of the projects we have started. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to expand my reach to make more students aware of the opportunities that are accessible to them and also to amplify my project’s impact and reach. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: AquaSolar
The purpose of this project is to to introduce a solar thermal water heating system at Bishop Central Primary School in Mukono. The school heavily relies on firewood as their main source of energy in the kitchen and therefore we hope by introducing this system we will help reduce the health effects related to use of firewood and the mitigate the climate change effects by reducing the carbon footprint in these areas. Solar thermal system preaheats water up to certain temperature so that you don't need a lot of firewood to reach 100 degrees.
About the Millennium Fellow
Ivan is a third year Civil Engineering student at Uganda Christian University Mukono, who is driven by a passion for community service and youth leadership. His experience as President of an international non-profit organization has been instrumental in shaping his skills.
As an engineering student, he has worked on an international humanitarian project with American students from Dartmouth aimed at reducing carbon footprint and dependence on firewood. He has also had the opportunity to participate in an international youth conference on nature and conservation in Rwanda, both as an attendee and facilitator. From mobilizing small teams to forging partnerships with different organizations, he has been able to create positive impact in the lives of those that are unfortunate and where resources are very scarce.
