United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 52,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2024 on 6,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 280+ campuses worldwide (just 5%) were selected to host the 4,000+ Millennium Fellows.

" Participating in the Millennium Fellowship programme will open up countless opportunities, resources and networks that can be leveraged to maximise the benefits that the local university community receive and ensure a high quality educational programme that efficiently spreads the knowledge of Bahasa Melayu to yourh from all corners of the world. This programme will also enable myself and my team of 11 colleagues to connect with like-minded individual student leaders from all over the world, share our initiatives and ideas, and be able to learn from each other! Millennium Fellowship Project: Speak Bahasa Melayu
The "Speak Bahasa Melayu" programme is an initiative aimed at fostering cultural and linguistic integration among international students at Universiti Malaya. By focusing on Bahasa Melayu and Malaysia’s multicultural heritage, the programme provides opportunities for students to develop practical language skills while deepening their understanding of the local cultural landscape. This initiative aligns with Universiti Malaya’s mission to create an inclusive environment for diverse learners.
About the Millennium Fellow
Born in Bucharest, Romania, Cristian Barbulescu moved to Australia when he was just 11 years old. He grew up in the suburbs of Canberra until he graduated high school. Once 18, he moved again to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and began his economicals undergraduate degree at Universiti Malaya. Despite moving continents every few years, he has continued to strive academically, linguistically and contribute to his communities. From being involved early on in high school with leadership programmes, to digitising his college's guide booklet for newcomers over the summer, Cristian has always been driven to make an positive impact within his educational institution. Having been voted in as the first ever international student in the Universiti Malaya student union, Cristian alongside his team of 11 international students, is looking to leverage the Millennium Fellowship program to provide high quality free educational programme to teach Bahasa Melayu to hundreds of new international students and be improve the quality of cultural and linguistic education that Malaysia's public university system gives to it's international students.
